This is just my theory though; from my shaving experience, you may experiment as well and see if it makes a difference.

# But if you really care for your expenses or wish the cartridge to last much longer then I strongly suggest you first wash out the razor head thoroughly under the running water (since its 100 % WASHABLE you should have no problems) and then next use the clean and renew system. This makes sense doesn’t it? Almost all debris will be flushed manually prior to using the system ensuring a little fluid is used during the renewing process.

Last word

The only concern I can see with this system is that the monthly clean and renew cartridge expenses can be a worry for most. So, if you are willing to save some bucks, you may ignore the self-cleaning unit and just rinse the shaver head under the tap water before or after you shave.  Manual washing, even though will not disappoint you. However, do not forget to apply lubricating machine oil lightly if you aren’t  using clean and renew system.
